The Labouchere System

The game of Roulette has been around for a long time. There is always a large group of people that are very loyal to the game of Roulette. Some of these people just like the fact that it is an easy game to pick up and that the rules are not all that complicated. Others like the pace of the game which allows them to engage in conversation and to just enjoy themselves while playing. One of the things about roulette that all of these people love is that they have the potential to have some big winning sessions. There are a number of roulette strategy systems and one of the most successful of them is the Labouchere System.

How Does the Labouchere Roulette System Work?

The Labouchere System is also known as the cancellation system and is a variant of the martingale system, so it is also called the split martingale system. There is some preparation involved if you intend to use the Labouchere System. To prepare you have to decide how much profit that you want to make for the session. Then you need to write down a list of numbers that, when added together, equal the amount that you previously determined that you wanted to win. This system is intended to be used only with even money bets like red and black or odd and even. Because of the 0 and the 00 these bets are not exactly a fifty fifty proposition but the Labouchere System tries to compensate for this.

Can You Show an Example of the Labouchere Roulette System?

It may be easier to explain the Labouchere System if we do so with an example. Let us assume that our target win is $100.00. Having pre-determined this target win we need to make up our list of numbers. We can use 10, 10, 20, 20, 20, 10, 10 as our list. So for our first bet we would add the first and last number together and then bet $20.00 on an even money wager, for this example we will use Red. If red comes out and you win the bet then you would cross the first and last number off of the list leaving you with 10, 20, 20, 20, 10 as your list. If a black number came up and you lost the wager then you would add the amount of the lost bet to the end of your list making it look like 10, 10, 20, 20, 20, 10, 10, 20. So your next bet would again be the first and last numbers on the list so had you won the first bet you would again be betting $20.00 and if you had lost the previous bet then you would be betting $30.00.

The Pros and Cons of the Labouchere Roulette System

When you win a bet you will be crossing out two numbers from your list and when you lose a bet you will only be adding one number to the list. When all of the numbers have been crossed out you will have won the target win amount. The positive here is that the system will work as long as you do not run out of money or hit the table maximum bet limit. The system is a bit safer than the Martingale system but can also be defeated by an extending losing streak because the required wager amounts become too large.
